Latest News

9/10/2019 –  From our President, Donna:   As the song says…”it was a very good year.”  To close out our golf season, we played the Senior Championships at Oneonta Country Club.  We had a great two days.  There were interesting holes, stories to be told, and lots of laughs. Thanks to Gwen Schuster, NEWGA rep for coordinating and overseeing our two day event.

Applause for our champions of the two day, 36 hole contest.  The Senior Champion is Pat Mayne of Western Turnpike Golf Course. She scored an 85, 84 for a total of 169. Pat edged out the several other players in a competitive field to take home the trophy.  Our Super Senior (any players over 70 years old) is Sandy Weckter of Pinehaven Country Club.  She is a repeat winner from 2018. She made a strong comeback on day two to win the trophy.  Sandy shot 99, 87 for a total of 186.  Congratulations to you both.  Great finishes!
Congratulations to all of the flight winners and thank to all who participated in this “senior event”.  It is a great way to end the season.  Thank you to all of you for your support of and participation in NEWGA.  And, thank you to each of the Club Reps who are our liason to the membership and who help make our tournaments run smoothly.  As we move through the off season, we’ll keep you informed  of plans and progress toward our 2020 season.  It was a very good year…
Reminder: our Fall meeting will be held at Pinehaven CC on Sunday, October 6.  Our business meeting will be at 9:30.  General membership is welcome.  A luncheon and nine hole golf contest will follow.  Additional details will follow…
Joyce Bassett authored a nice article in the Times Union today..in the Sports section, page B1, above the fold, titled: Women Worth Watching.  Thank you, Joyce for spotlighting women in sport.  And, in this week: Go USA.  I’ll be watching the Solheim Cup competition.

Gail Sykes Better Ball of Two winners have been posted to Tournament Results under Tournament Events.

8/15/2019 -It was a great day yesterday at Mohawk Golf Club where we played the annual Gail Sykes better ball of two.  The weather was perfect for golf, the course was in great condition, the luncheon was excellent.  Thank you and kudos all around.  Flight results will be posted on the web site in the days to come but a quick shout out to the overall winners of the day.  After a match of cards, low gross accolades went to Mary Ann Keeler and Mary Corrigan, both of Western Turnpike who tallied an impressive 77.  Low net honors went to Joan Taylor and Maxine Tucker, both of Ballston Spa, with a 61 net score.  Congratulations to all who played and applause to those who “prized”.

And, a big “wow” to Kim Lloyd of Shaker Ridge who, in the mixed team tournament in Rome, NY with NYSGA, from 166 yards out put the ball in the cup for a double eagle (albatross) on a par 5.  And, say congrats to Nancy Kroll of Pinehaven, who in the same tournament scored her eighth career ace.  Congratulations to both.  Donna Heskett, NEWGA President

7/23/2019 – Congratulations to our 2019 NEWGA Champion, Sue Kahler of Ballston Spa CC .  Sue posted an impressive 2 day score of 149 (74,75) for the win.   See “View All News” button below for article from Times Union.   Congratulations to the flight winners, Pat Mayne of Western Turnpike Golf, Heather Morrison of Burden Lake CC and Jane King of Catskill Golf Resort.  The event was held at McGregor Golf Links.  The complete results have been posted to Tournament results.

7/16/2019-  Mixed Tournament results have been posted.  Check out Tournament Results.

The Mixed Tournament was held July 12th at Western Turnpike Golf Course. And the day went well. The weather cooperated, the course was in great shape and the meal was a perfect end to a great day.  We had a very nice field of 44 people, and 22 gals of NEWGA were able to tout this association to their tournament partners.

Congratulations to the overall winners.  Overall Gross went to Linda Kolnick and Zach Bowerman both of Canajoharie. Linda would probably want me to add they are  REPEAT winners!  They had a Better Ball gross score or 70 and nipped the field by three strokes.

The Overall Net went to Cindy Walkanowski and Stan Walkanowski both of Ballston Spa who posted an impressive Better Ball net score of 56.4 and a two stroke edge. It was close.
Thanks to Mary Corrigan and Alice Dorset for putting this great day together from their end. They and the staff at Western gave our players a great day…
