From our president – 2024 Mixed Event at CC of Troy

Yesterday was a spectacularly beautiful day on the links in the lush green hills at the Country Club of Troy for our popular NEWGA Mixed Team event!  Boy, those gorgeous views never get old!  The full field of 96 members and their guests enjoyed a lot of heathy competition in the Modified Chapman style format.  Some refer to this format as the “great divorce open” as each team tees off from their respective tees and then hit each other’s drives to determine which ball will then be played out in a scramble format.
Sweeping the day with a definitive win and collecting the Overall Low Gross prize was the team of Cindi Keeler (Burden Lake CC) and Dan Ireland (CC of Troy).  This top team shot a 66 besting the nearest competitors by 3 strokes; Patricia Canner (Oneonta CC) and Todd Carrington (Colonial Ridge) shot an impressive 69.
Heidi and Buddy Glazier (Albany CC) took home Overall Low Net honors carding a 59!
As usual NEWGA paid out 50% of the field so lots of folks cashed!  Check out the full list of winners at newgagolf.com.
Special thanks to Troy’s NEWGA Rep Sue Mooradian for helping to coordinate the day along with the terrific golf shop and food and beverage staff.  We enjoyed an abundant and delicious Mexican buffet. Big thank you also, as always, to our Tournament Chairperson Sandy Morley and Web Chairperson Kathy McLaughlin who always work hard behind the scenes but who work extra hard on this challenging event figuring out guests handicaps, differentials, playing tees, etc. Lots of special details go into making this event a success and it went off flawlessly!
Registration closed last night for NEWGA’s 2-Person Scramble at Fox Run, June 20.  We are very excited to host 35 teams (70 players) to compete on this fun golf course!
Our NEWGA season halfway point peaks with our premier NEWGA tournament, a 4-player team event, “The Purdy” (Best 2 of 4) being contested this year at Glens Falls CC on July 1.  Online registration opens Friday, June 14 and closes Thursday, June 20.
As always, thanks for playing!
