From our president – 2025 Gail Purdy Brophy Best 2 of 4 at Wiltwyck Golf Club

Gail Purdy Brophy would have been thrilled to witness the enthusiastic turnout and spirited team play at NEWGA’s “The Purdy (Best 2 of 4)” tournament held yesterday in her honor at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, NY.  Hot temps, a beautiful Catskill Mountain backdrop, and what some might refer to as “murderous greens” designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., all combined for a challenging but delightful 18-hole round for our twenty-five 4-person teams!
Overall Gross Champions in this unique scoring format went to the team of Mary Diefendorf, Linda Kolnick (Canajoharie), Deb Langevin (Cobleskill), and our wonderful host and Wiltwyck NEWGA Rep, Cheryl Potter. The foursome bested the field by four strokes with a combined two-ball gross score of 157.   The best combined two-ball net score of 135 earned the team of Theresa Marquis (Edison), Christine Brown (Burden Lake), Jennifer Cargioli, and Marina Tompkins (Catskill) top honors for Overall Low Net!  Congratulations to both teams and all the gross and net winners in each flight!  Full results are posted at newgagolf.com
Thank you to Cheryl Potter for coordinating a great day and a delicious luncheon buffet, and to Golf Pro Trevor Alexander and the rest of the Wiltwyck staff for showing us a good time. We deeply regret the delay in processing the results and appreciate everyone’s patience!  I know many of you traveled considerable distances to attend. NEWGA greatly appreciates your support.
Side Note: As with all NEWGA events, when members play their own ball, we post your scores to GHIN within 1 day of tournament play.  Ideally, it is same day, but timing is dependent on individual pro shops. Yesterday’s scores will be uploaded today for overnight posting and GHIN update.
Online registration is currently open through Sunday, Aug. 17, for NEWGA’s next event, the 1 Gross, 1 Net of 4 at Wolfert’s Roost, Wednesday, Aug. 27.  Registration also opens Sunday, Aug. 17, for our final 2025 event, the 2-day Senior Championship being contested at Van Patten, Sept. 2-3.
As always, thanks for playing!
Deb DiMaggio
