The 2-day 2024 NEWGA Championship culminated in a 4-hole playoff yesterday between defending 2023 NEWGA Champ Susan Kahler (Ballston Spa CC) and Kim Skiba (The Edison Club)! What an exciting finish with Kim’s playoff birdie putt putting her on top. Congratulations to Kim for notching a 14-stroke improvement on Day 2 to put her in contention to hoist the 2024 trophy! Two very tough competitors down the stretch and so impressive to watch! The day’s exclamation point came from a hole-in-one for Heather Morrison (Burden Lake CC) on #13 which helped her claim the top gross prize in the 2nd flight while Sandy Morley (Burden Lake CC) took home top honors in the 3rd flight edging out Michelle Brown (The Edison Club) by one stroke!! Kudos to the entire field for putting yourselves out there playing your own ball in competition and testing your skills through rain, heat, delays and thick rough! Great camaraderie grinding it out together on a tough, but beautiful McGregor Links course!
Thank you to McGregor NEWGA rep Christine McKnight and her crew for orchestrating a great event and to Head Pro Mike Decker and his staff for helping us navigate the weather as well as providing rules guidance and professionalism throughout the 2-day event.
Next up on our schedule is the Team Play Event (1 Gross, 1 Net of 4) at Cobleskill Golf Club on Monday, August 12. Today is the final day for online registration. Registration for our final tournament, the 2-day Senior Championship at Colonie CC, opens Sunday, Aug. 11 and closes Sat., Aug. 17.
As always, thanks for playing!
