From our president – 2025 4P Scramble at Burden Lake CC

I had to double check the date on the calendar this morning when it was barely 50 degrees outside, to make sure it was not November instead of May!!  It was an unpredictably frigid start to our 2025 NEWGA season, the 4-person scramble held at Burden Lake Country Club. I saw members wearing winter hats, earmuffs, head wraps, gloves, multiple layers and some even scrambling to the pro shop to buy up extra gear before the 9 a.m. shotgun start to try and keep warm! Of course, there were a few diehards who seemed unphased by the cold temps and toughed out the day in shorts and skorts..my heroes!!  Whatever you were wearing, it was wonderful to see all 110 of you who braved the elements to play golf today.  The first event is always very special and one of my favorites as I observe old friends reuniting after many months apart.  The hugs, excited chatter, banter, laughter and the exuberant energy made the morning vibe very heart-warming!

We are very appreciative of owner Tom Choquette and everyone at Burden Lake Country Club for pulling out all the stops in accommodating one of NEWGA’s largest fields in recent memory without a hitch. Golf Pro Justin Hearly and his staff had fifty-six carts all set up and ready to go, assisted with bags and cart assignments, marking the course and helped with scoring. Inside the clubhouse Lauryn Bastian and her crew provided delicious breakfast sandwiches and a fresh and tasty luncheon buffet.  Special thank you also goes out to NEWGA’s BLCC Representatives Sandy Morley and Peg Squazzo for making all the arrangements!  Well done!

And a “very well done” also goes out to all of the competitors today for keeping up with the pace of play and moving your teams around the golf course in a very impressive 4 hours and 15 minutes!!  Hooray!! The Ranger didn’t even have to yell at anyone!!  🙂

When all was said and done, top honors for Overall Gross went to the Ballston Spa Country Club team of Kathy Harkins, Donna Nevulis, Kate Oppedisano and Gina Castelli with a team score of 69!  The Overall Net prize went to the Oneonta Country Club team of Andi Smaila, Roxy Birdsall, Patricia Canner and Kristen Shearer shooting a Net 62!!  Congratulations ladies and to all the winners in each of the 5 flights!  Results are now posted at newgagolf.com in the Member Section under the Tournaments tab.

Online registration is currently open through Saturday, May 24 for the next NEWGA event, our Ringers Tournament (Individual Stroke Play) which will be contested at Western Turnpike Golf Course on Tuesday, June 3.

 As always, thanks for playing!!
