From our president – 2025 Gail Sykes BB of Two at Leatherstocking Golf Club

We had a picturesque day for golf and celebrating the memory of Gail Sykes yesterday in Cooperstown at The Otesaga’s beautifully scenic lakeside Leatherstocking Golf Club. Tim Quirk, Director of Golf, included an inspiring tribute to Gail’s many achievements during his opening announcements, then used a real antique/historic shotgun to send the 54, 2-person teams on their way at 9 a.m.  Very cool!

In addition to Tim and his outstanding, courteous golf staff, I’d also like to thank NEWGA Reps Andrea Johnson and Patricia Grillo, who enlisted the help of their fellow Leatherstocking NEWGA members to greet and guide the players as we arrived at the golf course and who were instrumental in making the day a rousing, well organized success for our largest field in some time!  The post-round luncheon buffet and service at The Otesaga lived up to its first-class reputation as well!

Twenty-nine teams cashed in this Better Ball of Partners 18-hole event. The Overall Low Gross team of Sue Kahler and Heidi Harkins (Ballston Spa) successfully defended their 2024 win, carding a team total of 75, 2 strokes better than the team of Kathy Canestrini and Kelly McKenna (Western Turnpike). The Overall Low Net winning team of Heather Morrison and Jen DiIorio (Burden Lake) bested the field in the net division by three strokes with a 64!  Congratulations to all the winners and the entire field for keeping up with the pace of play on what could be a very challenging track.  Check out the complete tournament results at newgagolf.com

As always, thanks for playing!!
