The summer heat wave finally broke and gave way to much cooler temps for NEWGA’s (1 Gross, 1 Net of 4) Team Play event held at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club in Albany, NY yesterday. The full field of 96 players added and discarded layers of clothing throughout the round to keep up with the changing weather. Still, all were treated to a pristine and immaculate golf course, with sometimes tricky, unpredictable greens and a lot of fun camaraderie.
Scoring was based on the aggregate total score of the low gross ball plus the low net ball from each 4-person team for each hole. The team that produced the best 18-hole result, winning the Overall Champ Team Title, was NEWGA Rep and Wolfert’s own Patty Baynes, along with teammates Kathy Harkins, Kate Oppedisano, and yours truly, Deb DiMaggio, all of Ballston Spa CC, with a low round of 135, 2 strokes ahead of the field! What a challenging and fun day! Congratulations to all the winners in all 4 flights and to all the women who participated!
Thank you to NEWGA Rep Patty Baynes for helping to organize the delicious luncheon, as well as the bonus coffee and muffins (homemade by a Wolfert’s member just because!) to start our day off right! Director of Golf Operations Austin Westerveld and Head Pro Brian Gerowski handled all the tournament details before, during, and after the event cheerfully and flawlessly. We are grateful to them and the entire food and beverage staff for making our final 2025 NEWGA team event a rousing success!
The field is set for this year’s final individual event, the 2-Day NEWGA Senior Championship, being contested next week at Van Patten Golf Course. Thirty-eight resilient members will compete over 36 holes to see who will take home the Peggy Enos Memorial Plaque and the Super Senior Division’s Louise Starzenski Cup!!
