From our president – 2025 Two Player Scramble at Oneonta CC

The 78 NEWGA members who registered for the 2-person Scramble at Oneonta Country Club yesterday were treated to breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit, individually wrapped handmade candied mixed nuts and a beautiful assortment of fresh-cut flowers in mason jars at each luncheon table, not to mention a picture perfect summer day on a stunning golf course that included an iconic coverage bridge!
Not surprisingly, our entire Oneonta NEWGA contingent went above and beyond with their attention to detail and hospitality, led by NEWGA Reps Tracey Ranieri and Deb Morrison, their awesome Director of Golf, Aaron Lathan, course superintendent, and their friendly and talented kitchen and service staff!  Thank you to one and all. We truly appreciated all your efforts!
After lunch, NEWGA acknowledged Oneonta CC member and Honorary NEWGA Member Gwen Schuster with a standing ovation and a delicious cake to celebrate her 50+ years as a NEWGA Member and all her many contributions to our organization through the years! Congratulations Gwen! Quite a special occasion!
Believe it or not, in and among the aforementioned details, a golf tournament was played!  The thirty-nine 2-person teams scrambled around the scenic and well-maintained 18 holes with much fanfare and flair!  Oneonta’s team of sisters, Tracey Ranieri and Kristen Shearer completed a dream round, winning Overall Gross on their home turf, shooting an outstanding round of three under par (70)!!  Both the Overall Gross Champions and Overall Net Champs came out of the third flight (woot!) with the team of Jennifer Cargioli and Marina Tompkins (Catskill) besting the field in the net division with a 55 net scramble score!  Congratulations to ALL the winners in all five flights!
The Edison Club is set to host our 40 registered members, ready to put their golf skills to the test, in the NEWGA Championship next week, July 29-30.  Good luck to all the players!!  Who will take home this year’s Championship Trophy?
Online registration opens Monday, July 28 for The Purdy (Better Ball of Two) being held at Wiltwyck GC on Wednesday August 13.  Be sure to assemble your 4-person teams and be ready to submit your entry!
As always, thanks for playing!
