From our President – 2023 Mixed Event at Pinehaven CC

After all the stormy weather of late we were treated to a picture perfect day for our sold-out Mixed Event at Pinehaven Country Club this week. Fifty NEWGA members and their guests paired up for the 18-hole Modified Chapman format (also known as the Great Divorce Open!). Players teed off and then partners hit each other’s drives to determine the best ball and then played that ball to the hole in a scramble format. It was a fun day with lots of great scoring and healthy competition!

The team of Nancy Kroll (Schenectady Municipal) and guest Jim Toomey clinched the Overall Gross title shooting a 1 under par 70, edging out by one stroke the mother/son team of Carol and Mike DiFabio and sister/brother duo of Susan and Gary Kahler who each posted an even par 71! Great competition! Congratulations to all!!

The Overall Net winners Cindi (Burden Lake) and John Keeler who rose up to the occasion to card a whopping 58.6!!!! Wow, great playing team!!

Mary Ellen (Pinehaven) and Stan Milos took home 1st Gross honors in the 2nd flight while Jamie Hall (Pinehaven) and Kevan Daniels topped the 3rd flight. Mona Wasserman (Western Turnpike) and her partner Peter Stoj not only won the 4th flight but Peter got a hole in one on #9!! Diane Bryce-Angel and David Angel were low gross winners in the 5th flight! A full list of winners can be found in the Tournament Results section of newgagolf.com.

Thank you to NEWGA’s Pinehaven Rep Anne Van Buren for helping to coordinate the delicious cookout buffet and to PGA Head Professional Brian Pierotti and his staff for their diligence in working with NEWGA Tournament Chair Sandy Morley in preparing the many behind-the-scenes details of this unique and complex tournament.
