September News

9/10/2019 –  From our President, Donna:   As the song says…”it was a very good year.”  To close out our golf season, we played the Senior Championships at Oneonta Country Club.  We had a great two days.  There were interesting holes, stories to be told, and lots of laughs. Thanks to Gwen Schuster, NEWGA rep for coordinating and overseeing our two day event.

Applause for our champions of the two day, 36 hole contest.  The Senior Champion is Pat Mayne of Western Turnpike Golf Course. She scored an 85, 84 for a total of 169. Pat edged out the several other players in a competitive field to take home the trophy.  Our Super Senior (any players over 70 years old) is Sandy Weckter of Pinehaven Country Club.  She is a repeat winner from 2018. She made a strong comeback on day two to win the trophy.  Sandy shot 99, 87 for a total of 186.  Congratulations to you both.  Great finishes!
Congratulations to all of the flight winners and thank to all who participated in this “senior event”.  It is a great way to end the season.  Thank you to all of you for your support of and participation in NEWGA.  And, thank you to each of the Club Reps who are our liason to the membership and who help make our tournaments run smoothly.  As we move through the off season, we’ll keep you informed  of plans and progress toward our 2020 season.  It was a very good year…
Reminder: our Fall meeting will be held at Pinehaven CC on Sunday, October 6.  Our business meeting will be at 9:30.  General membership is welcome.  A luncheon and nine hole golf contest will follow.  Additional details will follow…
Joyce Bassett authored a nice article in the Times Union today..in the Sports section, page B1, above the fold, titled: Women Worth Watching.  Thank you, Joyce for spotlighting women in sport.  And, in this week: Go USA.  I’ll be watching the Solheim Cup competition.
